ACM@UIUC presents

1997 Midwestern ACM Chapter Conference

17-19 October, 1997

Calls for Participation
The 1997 Reflections | Projections Conference features a varied program of activities ranging from a job fair, the MechMania programming contest, a computer art show, technical presentations, and workshops. Participants are primarily students from Midwestern colleges and universities, with a variety of others also attending.

Technical Presentations
Proposals for technical presentations are solicited in the following general areas, although presentations in any area of computer science will be considered. This would be an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to present their work. Non-academic presenters are also encouraged to propose presentation topics.
  • Computer Languages - current trends, compiler implementation
  • Operating Systems - comparisons of commercial operating systems (i.e. Windows vs. Unix vs. MacOS vs. BeOS ...), security, I/O performance enhancements
  • Computer Graphics - algorithms, software systems, hardware support, human-computer interface
  • Hardware - processor design, low-level optimizations, non-traditional processor architectures
  • Education - effective teaching techniques, "canned" projects for courses

All submissions will be examined by a program committee for its suitability to the target audience.

Computer Art Show
This year we will be adding a new feature to the conference. Computer artists are encouraged to submit their work for inclusion in our art show. Both static and dynamic displays are acceptable.

Workshops
Want to share your knowledge? Those who want to give introductory workshops are encouraged to submit their proposals.
