Seven years ago, the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery at the University of Illinois (ACM@UIUC) held its first annual student computing conference. Attended by 150 students from across the Midwest and supported by 14 corporations, it was a great success. Highlights of the conference include Steve Wozniak's keynote address, MechMania (an AI programming contest), and a computing employment fair.

Since 1995, ACM@UIUC's student computing conference has continued to grow in size and scope eventually taking on the title of the National Student ACM Conference. Moreover, last year's conference was attended by 350 students from 12 universities and supported by 45 corporate sponsors.

This year, ACM@UIUC is holding the National Student Computing Machinery Conference held on October 12-14, 2001. We expect to have over 400 student attendees from 15 universities and have support from 30 corporate sponsors. There will be approximately 14 individual lectures, panel discussions, and workshops that will address the past, present, and future of computing.
